Mayo Mill Dam ProjectThe Mayo Mill Dam is located on the Piscataquis River in downtown Dover-Foxcroft adjacent to the historic Mayo Mill complex. Originally constructed in the 1800s to power local industry, the dam played an important role in the town’s economic development for more than a century. After mill operations ceased and hydropower generation ended, the Town of Dover-Foxcroft began evaluating long-term options for the structure. Following engineering studies, public engagement, and community discussion, the town is working with partners to plan for the future of the site. The Town of Dover-Foxcroft has been working with partners including the The Nature Conservancy and the Atlantic Salmon Federation. As part of this process, a draft surrender application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has been prepared. The draft application is now available for public review. Residents are encouraged to review the document by clicking the links provided to access it online or by visiting the Town Office to view a hard copy. The Town will collect public comments from March 13, 2026 through the close of business on March 30, 2026. Comments may be submitted in two ways: by completing a paper comment form available at the Town Office or by submitting feedback through the online comment form.
