PLEASE READ: IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING OBTAINING A MARRIAGE LICENSE:
Due to procedural changes, marriage licenses will be issued by appointment. Please obtain official documentation at the municipal office. You do not have to call ahead to obtain your licensing paperwork. Please complete marriage intentions application except for original signatures as that must be done in person in front of a Clerk or Notary at the municipal office. Once completed, you may call to make an appointment to receive your license. There is no waiting period once the license application and intentions are complete and you may receive your license at time of appointment barring any unusual circumstances. To make an appointment call 564-3318, Ext. 1023 or you can set an appointment at the time of your office visit. Thank you and we appreciate your patience.
In Dover-Foxcroft, the Town Office is responsible for issuing Marriage Licenses to residents of this town. To obtain a license, the prospective Bride and Groom must appear in our office with proof of identity (State ID, Driver's License). If either one has been married before, they must provide us with a legal attested copy of their divorce decree or certified copy of the death certificate. The current fee for a license is $40 and once the license has been issued, it is valid for 90 days. There is no longer a three day waiting period in Maine to obtain a license. Once the ceremony has taken place, the person who performed the ceremony (the officiant) is responsible for returning it to the place where the license was issued for filing with that town and the State. Once this has been done a certified copy may be obtained for a fee of $15.00 for the first copy and $6.00 for each additional copy obtained at the same time.
